Tips to Arrange Goal Setting
A good plan should be based on clear goals or objectives and the stages of implementation are clear, or which we simply refer to as goal setting.
SMART Goal Setting
Edwin Locke proposed that in determining the purpose or goal setting there are four kinds of mechanisms that will motivate the team until the objectives are: (a) must be able to direct attention, (b) organize the effort and resources; (c) to increase persistence, and (d) supporting strategies and plans of activities. There are various approaches to achieve the goal, but here will be discussed a simple approach but it’s quite potent when executed properly, that is an approach that is often abbreviated by the acronym SMART.
1. Specific
Determination of specific objectives must be in accordance with what is to be achieved. Significant equivalent of saying is, [Stretching, Simple. This means that in expressing the objectives to be achieved must be clearly illustrated and easy to understand on what will be achieved together. As an example of a department store set to increase customer visits and sales volume amounted to 10% of the total sales per month.
2. Measurable
Achieve the goal that we should be measurable; the easiest is measured quantitatively amount (volume) or amount (cost). Equivalent word for help is a meaningful sense, Manageable. For examples to achieve increased sales volumes, will clearly targeted at 10%, this can be measured from the average customer visits per day and the total amount spent.
3. Achievable
What is the goal proclaimed in can be achieved? This means that possible or not to be achieved with the conditions faced. Appropriate equivalent of saying is, Agreed, Assignable, Action-oriented, and Ambitious, aligned. For the example above, this can be achieved because based on the survey results there is still market potential, several types of products can still be lowered price, and location of the store environment is quite strategic and business area.
4. Realistic
Can the goals be achieved with the resources? Relevant correspondence is said, Results-oriented, Rewarding. This means that there is good capacity of human resources, systems, assets, finance can be utilized to achieve these goals?
5. Time
When this goal is realized and when targeted to be achieved? He is the equivalent of time-oriented, Time Framed, timely, Timetabled, Time limited. Should be set when start and ends when either in whole or breakdown job into sub activities. For the above example the project will be conducted in the month of August-September which will be an increase in purchases ahead of Idul Fitri.
SMART objectives in this formula should be communicated not only at management level but up to all employees or members of the organization for non-profit organization motive.
“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail …”
Often the person or organization negligent in this case because it felt too much a waste of time to sit quietly analyze and discuss. This phase is often marked by arguments, requires supporting data, survey result, the historical performance of the organization and so forth. It seems complicated and a waste of time, but if not done will be overcoming an even more complicated and it takes a lot longer to overcome.
